Supporting the Troops?

1st Cavalry Statement regarding Press Release

During a simple business transaction, a statement was made to a Soldier which is now resulting in death threats for the business owner and his family.  The First Team would like to remind Americans that troops are over in Iraq to protect our freedoms, including freedom of speech. Even though many Americans feel strongly about the comments that were made, it would be in the best interest of the American people to rise above and remember the principles of what our troops are fighting for.

More from the 1st Cav:

The interest shown by the American public over this matter shows care and concern for deployed Soldiers, a command spokesman said.

“This is a great example of the American people supporting their Soldiers,” said Maj. Randall Baucom, public affairs officer for the 1st Cav. Div.’s 1st Brigade.  “We understand that people are lining up back home to send our troops sleeping mattresses.  That’s great, but we don’t need them.”

Thank you to all who contacted the company to let them know that the treatment shown to our Soldiers was disgraceful.

Edit – update: Please check out the work of Euphoric Reality… Excellent researchng!

I am seeing red…

This Wisconsin company needs to hear from all of us who support our Troops whether they believe in the War or not.  No company who enjoys the benefits our Nation should respond in this rude manner.
To Whom it may concern:

Do you ship to APO addresses? I’m in the 1st Cavalry Division stationed in Iraq and we are trying to order some mats but we are looking for who ships to APO first.

SGT Hess, We do not ship to APO addresses, and even if we did, we would NEVER ship to Iraq. If you were sensible, you and your troops would pull out of Iraq.

Snopes contacted the Sgt and verified that it did happen the way the e-mail states. The reason they can’t verify the story fully is because Discount-Mats hasn’t responded to requests for info regarding the claim.

It’s ok for a company to not ship to an APO for whatever reason their company policies may be, but for a company to give THIS kind of response to a Deployed Soldier serving in Iraq is despicable and uncalled for.

Sgt. Hess was not asking for a handout, nor was he asking for a discount. To be treated with such disrespect, is unacceptable.

Let’s get the word out.
